Mamiraua Reserve & Uakari-lodge
The Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve is a protected area that allows both the permanence of the local population, as well as the sustainable use of it’s natural resources. The Ecotourism Program developed at Mamiraua reserve is part of a series of economic alternatives implemented aiming the conservation of Natural Resources through their sustainable use, and promoting better standards of living for local people. Mamiraua was awarded the best ecotourism destination by Conde Nast Traveler and also got a prize for Sustainable Tourism from the Smithsonian Magazine (both US).
In Mamiraua the natural, cultural and scientific attractions combined offer guests an intensive, diversified and unique experience. The main attraction though is the abundant wildlife, resulting from over 15 years of conservation. Lonely Planet Travel Guide (2011) refers to Mamiraua as the region with one of the best wildlife viewing of the Amazon, including the scarlet-faced white-uakari, a primate endemic to the region.
Another attraction is the quality of information available about the fauna, flora and Amazonian rainforest ecology. A group of experienced local and naturalist guides will help you to interpret and understand the local ecosystem and it’s ecological interactions.
Mamiraua Reserve offers a visitation program with activities that invlove outings and excursions with local guides in the forest, through the channels, lakes and trails. There are interactions with the scientists that work in the area.
Guest will have the opportunity to get the day-to-day life in a visit to local communities, inhabitants of the protected area who use natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The Uakari Floating lodge is the only option to stay at the Mamiraua Reserve. It has seven floating houses linked through floating walkways. It has a restaurant, living room, conference room, libary and deck with a natural pool. Five structures with 10 suites were designed to accommodate guests. The rooms are simple, but comfortable with capacity for two or three people.
The reserve offers packages of three, four and seven nights in the reserve. The package include transfer from the aiport to the lodge, all meals, accommodation, guides and all standard excursions.
